Three Oaks in THE NEW YORK TIMES In case you missed the May 9th edition of THE NEW YORK TIMES… Three Oaks was a highlight in the Escape section. Check it out THE NEW YORK TIMES. 3rd Saturdays - Three Oaks Three Oaks Galleries and select shops will stay open into the evening hosting receptions, musicians and demonstrations. The next 3rd Saturday is June 20, 2009. Future dates include July 18 and August 15. GALLERY 107 at the Acorn Theatre presents…Nestled in the Historic Featherbone Factory is the unique Gallery 107. The gallery represents various Midwestern artists. Visit Gallery 107 just before any live performance at the Acorn Theater. For more information visit www.acorntheater.com. Three Oaks Poet Laureate 2008-2009 The poetry Board of the Village of Three Oaks, Michigan announced that Elise Paschen of Harbert, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois has been named Poet Laureate for 2008-2009. Elise Paschen is co-founder and co-editor of Poetry In Motion, a nationwide program which places poetry posters in public venues read by over 13,000,000 people to date. She is editor of the New York Times best seller Poetry Speaks to Children. Her poems have appeared in a variety of anthologies and in magazines and journals, including the New Yorker, Poetry Magazine, New Republic and The Nation. She is author of Infidelities (Story Line, 1996) and Houses: Coasts (Oxford Sycamore Press, 1985). Elise Paschen received her D.Phil., in 1988 from Oxford University and a BA from Harvard in American and English literature in 1982. She has taught at the School of the Art Institutes of Chicago and Antioch University as well as other venues. The Poet Laureate receives a $500 honorarium from the Poetry Board of the Village of Three Oaks, Michigan and will be honored at Village Hall where the Poet Laureate Medal will be bestowed. The Laureate will give a brief reading from the body of her works. Ms. Paschen will compose poems for the winter holiday and Flag Day. Ms. Paschen succeeds Rick Tuttle, Rebecca Hazelton Pennell, Mary Ann Moran, and Amy Mitchell who previously held the position of Poet Laureate of Three Oaks. Celebrating Our 14th Season! The Vickers Theatre has officially been open for 13 years and are currently in our 14th season! Thank you to all of you who have shared in the films. Visit our friendly local farmers on Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm in the parking lot next to the Vickers Theatre starting on May 24, 2009.
